Carl Albert, the forty-sixth speaker of the House of Representative, the congress of the United States, was born here may 10, 1908. A company house located in a coal mining camp remained the family home until past his third birthday. A graduate of Oklahoma University and a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford University. He was admitted to the practice of law by the State Bar of Oklahoma in 1934. He served honorably in World War II and was decorated with the Bronze Star Medal. First elected to the House of Representatives in 1947. He has served with distinction and honor to his State in every Congress from and since the 80th. He was elected majority leader in 1962 and Speaker in 1971.
It is fit that the public business be lodged in the hand of him found worthy of the public trust.
