Begun as crossroads store on claim of Sylvan T. Rice with first saleJuly 25, 1869. On March 1 1890 became Marshal I. T. Post Office Moved to new townsite 1894.
From Cresent, OK 11 miles North to OK 51 turn left go 2 miles to OK 74E right to the town of Marshall, continue on to the curve on OK 59. Marker is on left.
Marshall Township is named for the town of Marshall, which is located in section 4. The name Marshall comes from Sylvan Rice, the original land claim owner. In 1889, he petitioned for a post office to be named Marshall after his original home town of Marshall town, Iowa.
