Marlow Landmark Burns
A couple of weeks ago (Aug. 18, 2009) this old house burned in Marlow, Oklahoma. You might ask, "So its an old house?"
I didn't know this fact either, and my sister even lived in this house in the 70's, this house was a historic landmark for Marlow.
This house is the first lumber built house in Marlow. The lumber was hauled in to build the new Rock Inland Co., railroad. When that was finished in 1892, some of this lumber was used to build part of this house. The originally house was a half-dugout. Mr. A.B. Smythe was the original owner of the house, and was one of the founders of Marlow 1889. The house was located in the 100 block of south Broadway. This historic house stood guard over downtown Marlow for nearly 120 years.
