Birding Oklahoma & Friends of the Washita NWR

Hello everyone. I've been helping my friend James get his new Birding Oklahoma site setup. Some of you may know James from a few post here and over at our sister site West OK Journal.

Birding Oklahoma is a gathering place for birders around the State of Oklahoma to share their sightings and experiences with other birders. So if you like birdwatching, photography & nature please check it out www.BirdingOklahoma.com.

James is also interested in starting up a local group around Washita National Wildlife Refuge.
I have lived within a half hour driving distance to the Washita NWR for 10 years now and have often wondered why a place with such excellent birding does not have a friends group. A friends group could offer so much to it's members and at the same time benefit the refuge by offering a volunteer base to help with things like the Christmas Bird Counts, the weekly water foul survey, and many more.

If there are others who share my opinion, please use this group to help get that interest started in others. It really wouldn't take but a few to begin and if it seems to be a working proposition, then I think those involved should look at taking the next step and formally creating an organized group.
If you're interested hop on over to Birding Oklahoma's Friends of the Washita NWR Group.
