End of Watermelon Season 2008

A friend of the family invited mom and I to go to her son's watermelon patch and get (hunt) some watermelons, before he turned the cows into the field. The field is south of Rush Springs. When we got there the field was covered in sunflowers, nettles, careless weeds, grass and watermelon vines and the cows were already there. So we had to watch out for the bull.

We had to hunt to find the watermelons, the major crop had already been picked and sold. I spent most of my time taking pictures and mom and friend look for the melons. All we found were small ones. Watermelon can weight over 25, 50 to 200 pounds, these maybe weighed 10 pounds.

The peak of watermelon season is mid-August and this is nearly the middle of September we were lucky to find any watermelons.
