Road Trip to North Central Oklahoma - Part I
At 8:15 am Sunday, Aug.3,2008, I start my road trip at McDonald's (Sausage and Biscuit) on Northwest expressway & Council Rd, Oklahoma City. I headed my car west on Hy 3 to Okarche,
turn onto Hy 81 North, this part of my trip was to go up the Chisholm Trail to the Kansas border,(I had already gone down the Chisholm Trail to the Texas border on another trip).
I can now say that I have traveled the entire length of Oklahoma on the Chisholm Trail.
First stop was Kingfisher, a brand new statue greeted me downtown. While I was in Kingfisher I got some GPS reading for some site I had missed on last trip. I went to the Kingfisher Cemetery on Hy 33 I found the graves of one of the members of the Dalton (Outlaw) Gang, his mother's grave and other Dalton(not outlaws) family members graves, also found a outstanding sheriff/homesteader grave.

Kingfisher, OK - "Jesse Chisholm "Ambassador of the Plains" - Emmett Dalton Tombstone (Outlaw) - Adeline Lee Younger Dalton Tombstone (Mother) - William D. Fossett Tombstone (Sheriff/Homesteader).
Dover, OK - Cimarron River Crossing and Trail Junction (south of Dover) - Chisholm Trail (marker in bushes) - Red Fork Ranch (North of Dover)
Hennessey, OK - Pat Hennessey - Grave Site - Monument - Lighthouse
I went to the Calvary Cemetery west of Hennessey on Hy 51, looking for memorial marker for Roy V. Cashion (Rough Rider), I searched over the cemetery and didn't find the marker, ran out of time, it was hot, and when I got back to car I had to wash my feet, my feet had black dirt up to my ankles.
Lacey, OK - From Hennessey, I turn west on Hy 51 went to Lacey, then back tracked to Hennessey to get back on Hy 81.
Pond Creek, OK was next stop, time for a pit stop, got a coke, chips and candy (lunch). Back in the car I head north and found 3 more markers. Two of them were located off the highway on a sand/dirt road, in pastures across the road from each other. The markers were surround by deep grass and weeds,so I decide to put on my tennis shoes to walk in that tall grass (lucky no snakes). What an adventure!
Pond Creek/Jefferson, OK - Chisholm Trail - Sewell Stockade (aka The Pond Creek Ranch House) - Two Cowboys Grave Monument.
Medford, OK - Grant County Courthouse
At 1:45 pm I made it to the Oklahoma/Kansas state line about 158 miles traveled, I have finished my pilgrim up the Chisholm Trail.

Kansas here I come! I took some pictures of marker near Caldwell, KS. After a brief picture taking stop in Caldwell, I went east on Hy 81 to South Haven where I turn south and head back for Oklahoma on Hy 177. Just thought I would share these markers, they still have to do with the Chisholm Trail and the Cherokee Strip.
