As part of the Centennial Celebration a special session of the Oklahoma State Legislature to convene in Guthrie at the Legislative Hall of the Guthrie Scottish Rite Masonic Center.
Oklahoma Legislators Return to Guthrie

In May 2006, Joint Resolution 48 past both the House of Representatives and the State Senate, and was signed by Governor Brad Henry, which provided for a ceremonial special session of the Oklahoma State Legislature to convene in Guthrie. As it was originally, The session will be presided over by Lieutenant Governor Jari Askins with special presentations by key historic figures. Through the coordinated efforts of the Oklahoma Dept. of Transportation, the Heartland Flyer Coalition, Amtrak and Burlington Northern & Santa Fe Railroad a Special train, the Centennial Express, will bring over 400 state officials and guests from Oklahoma City to Guthrie for this momentous event.

The public is invited to meet the train at 11:00 am and greet State officials as they are welcomed by City officials and begin their march up to Granny Had One for a special luncheon. The luncheon will be sponsored by Oklahoma Farm Bureau Insurance. Seating is limited, but you are also welcomed to attend the special session of the Oklahoma State Legislature and witness this historic occasion. The event is hosted by the Guthrie Noon Lions Club under the direction of committee chair and former State Representative Frank Davis.
A mini OK Did Ya Know:
The original Oklahoma state seal was used in Guthrie to officiate all state business until 1910 when it was moved to Oklahoma City in the dead of night. (Great story there... told another time)

With special permission from Secretary of State Susan Savage the State Seal of Oklahoma will return to Guthrie and be on display November 12th – 16th at the Oklahoma Territorial Museum. Dr. Bob Blackburn will give a historic narrative of the actual events as they relate to the seal. Then, during the special session of the State legislature, Mayor Chuck Burtcher of Guthrie and Mayor Mick Cornett of Oklahoma City will exchange playful barbs regarding the seal and its rightful home, as Secretary Susan Savage stands guard to protect the seal for all Oklahomans.
