Lake Creek Marker

It's always great to hear from the people involved with the markers we find. We received this e-mail from Norma Lauer just the other day about the Lake Creek monument and church.

I was pleasantly surprised when I found your site on our computer, and saw the Lake Creek Church, and the Lake Creek School and Community marker across the road! The school disbanded in 1957.

The marker project was done by the Lake Creek HCE "club" as we call ourselves. We consist of 10 members, but had a few more at the time of the project in1999. We are a group of older ladies, and this was the biggest project we have ever done. We raised the money, researched history , designed what would be put on it, and saw the job completed.

I was the primary designer of what would be engraved on it, with the help of Willis Monument Products in Granite, who made the monument and set it up. We added a "First Tree Shelterbelt in the U.S.A.," smaller monument, later.

The large brick and stone building you show is our church, The Lake Creek Baptist Church, which is still active, with 3 services a week. The church was founded August 8, 1888. That's a long time ago!

Thanks for highlighting our Marker and Church on your website.
