Big Four School
Big Four School Located 3 miles north, was formed Mar. 17, 1920, by a special election vote to consolidate the districts of White Cap, Twilight, Wandell, and Bird Creek. Oldest permanent American settlement in state. Grew out of Chaouteau's furn trade at St. Louis, with Osages after they settled in this region in 1802 from Missouri. Improvements here in 1817 became residence of Col. A. P. Chouteau, West Point grad., noted in western U.S. official life and for many posts in Indian trade.

Cordell Academy
Site three blocks east. Opened in 1906, under auspices of the Dutch Reformed Churche, this pioneer school taught the youth here in Christain living. Its motto was "Labor omnia vicit." Presidents to its close in 1911 were: Myron B. Keator, Dr. Jacobe Poppen, Rev. C. H. Spaan. Teachers included Harold C. Amos, Laura B. Hilger and Valonia Corley.

Established here in 1869 as Oak Hill Industrial Academy by Presbyterian Board of Missions as boarding school for children of Choctaw Freedmen. Academy succeeded small school begun in 1860 by ex-slave and Presbyterian Minister Charles W. Stewart to serve numerous black families who had settled here after Civil War. Euchee Mission Boarding School In 1891, the Presbyterian Mission Board began plans to established a school among the Euchee Indians in this area. Much credit for founding the school is due to Samuel Brown, Noah Gregory, Henry Land, and William Sapulpa. Their work influenced the Creek council to appropriate money for the school from tribal funds. Buildings were constructed and the school opened in the fall of 1894 with about fifty students. Eureka Consolidated District #12 1908 - 1969 Eureka was established in 1908 with 18 square miles, the high school was started in 1919 when Center, Lincoln, and one half of Pleasant View were consolidated. In 1923, the Nabisco, Happy Flat, and East Banner districts were added and a new building was built on the William' place. The school burned in 1935. Jabbok Faith Missionary Training Home & Orphanage. A monument 1/2 mi. S. marks site of orphanage est'd 1901 by Abe Eisenhower, uncle of Dwight Eisenhower. Union Mission was the site of the first school to be established in what would become the state of Oklahoma. It was also the location of the first printing press in the state that arrived in 1836. Established 1832 by Rev. Alfred Wright and wife Harriet, who served as missionaries to Choctaws over 30 years. Rev. Wright, physician and linguist, helped develop written Choctaw language, translated gospels and much educational materials into Choctaw, Stone church here completed 1846, oldest such building in Oklahoma. Wyatt Cemetery and Hill School Hill School was located 4 miles south, 1 west of Gotebo on the Edward Hill land. It was a one room school from 1907 to 1939. The school was the site of the community activities, such as spelling and ciphering matches, standing room only at the box suppers and Christmas programs.
